Emergency Dentistry 101 – Tips for What To Do in a Dental Emergency
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A dental emergency can happen at any time and anywhere. Not all dental problems are life-threatening, but they can still cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Knowing what to do in a dental emergency can help you stay calm and minimize the damage.

An emergency dentist is a dental professional who specializes in providing urgent care for any kind of dental problem. They are trained to deal with a variety of conditions, from severe toothaches to broken teeth. If you’re experiencing any type of pain, discomfort, or other sign that something might be wrong with your mouth, it’s best to see an emergency dentist as soon as possible.

At Dentistry at The Grove, we are an emergency dentist in Burlington Ontario providing same-day appointments for any dental problem you may be experiencing. Our experienced team is dedicated to providing fast, effective care for any kind of dental emergency. We are also conveniently located in Burlington, making it easy to get the urgent care you need right

Toothache

If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water and floss gently to remove any food debris that might be stuck between your teeth. Avoid putting aspirin on the gums or teeth as it may cause burns. If the pain persists, take painkillers as recommended by your dentist or healthcare provider. Do not place heat or cold on the cheek or affected tooth.

Chipped or broken tooth

If you have a chipped or broken tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water and apply pressure to the affected area if there is bleeding. Save any broken or chipped tooth fragments if you can. If there is swelling, apply cold compresses to the affected area. See a dentist as soon as possible.

Knocked-out tooth

If you have a knocked-out tooth, it is essential to act quickly. Hold the tooth by the crown (the top part) and rinse it gently with water. Do not rub or scrub the tooth. Try to insert the tooth back into the socket and hold it there. If it is not possible, immerse the tooth in milk or saliva to keep it alive. Go to your dentist immediately so that they can replant the tooth. Time is of the essence in these situations.

Soft tissue injury

If you have a cut on your mouth or tongue, rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Apply pressure with sterile gauze or use a tea bag to help stop the bleeding. See your dentist or emergency room physician as soon as possible if the bleeding does not stop or remains severe.

Lost filling or crown

If you have lost a filling or crown, you can use dental cement or sugarless gum to cover the affected tooth temporarily. Apply clove oil if there is pain. Go to your dentist as soon as possible to fix the problem permanently.

Conclusion

When dealing with a dental emergency, it is important to remain calm and take care of the issue as quickly as possible. The tips above will help you understand what steps to take to minimize damage and discomfort. Be sure to visit your emergency dentist if needed for fast, effective treatment. At Dentistry at The Grove, our experienced team of emergency dentists in Burlington Ontario is here to provide fast, effective care for any kind of dental emergency. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need urgent dental care.
